Malibu Lagoon Restoration

Project: Planning andSite feature design for the $8 million and 25 acre project.

Year: 2013

Bunch was asked by design architect Clark Stevens of the Resource Conservation District  to collaborate on the public walkways and amenities of the recently completed Malibu Lagoon Restoration. The newly restored lagoon allows for greater access to the famed Surfrider Beach, better birding opportunities and a greatly improved habitat for the critters that live in this unique environment which is salt water for half the year and fresh water for the other half. Along the pathways teaching moments and gathering spaces such as the at the Kelp Canopy, Watershed Fountain, Water Stair, and Bird Blind create teaching moments and places for reflection that will help raise awareness for this unique habitat. Partners include California State Parks, California State Coastal Conservancy, Santa Monica Baykeeper and Santa Monica Bay Restoration Foundation.
